2015 MarylAND junior classical league convention
The LHS Latin club wrapped- up the 2015- 2016 school year by attending the MDJCL convention, hosted at the Country School in Easton, MD. Alexandria Hudson, Gia Haemmerle, Kyla Dungan, and Hugh Norko all came to participate in the various ludi, academic tests, and to sell their t- shirt at the bazaar. Ms. Carter also came to help with t- shirt selling and to encourage their success.
At this year’s MDJCL convention, we joined many Latin students from different chapters of the Junior Classical League within the state of Maryland. Other schools attending the event included Montgomery Blair, Loyola Blakefield, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Our Secretary, Alexandria Hudson, won 1st place on the dramatic interpretation, 1st place on the phrases and expressions academic test, and 1st place on the derivatives academic test.
Our former President, Hugh Norko, placed 1st on advanced Latin literature, 3rd on the mythology academic test, and 3rd on the derivatives academic test.
Our t- shirt designer, Kyla Dungan, placed 1st on the derivatives academic test and 3rd on the mythology academic test.
Our vice president, Gia Haemmerle, placed 2nd on the phrases and expressions academic test and 3rd on the history of the Monarch and Empire academic test.
Our t- shirt sold very well at this years state convention. We sold nearly 20 shirts with our recent design, and 10 of our old t- shirt design from last year.
Looking ahead, we have dates for several competitions this fall, and we’ll be hosting our annual Certamen Saturnalium in December (date tbd).

Linganore Certamen Team Places At Flint Hill
Linganore Latin Club sent a Level IA team to the Flint Hill certamen in Virginia to conclude the ending of the first semester. The competition was fierce, but Linganore's Level I team was among the victors, placing 3rd in their level. Those on the team included Alexandria Hudson, Rebekah Boswell, Jake Bolger, John Wheat, Gia Haemmerle, and Penny Owens. In addition to placing third in the competition, Gia and Allie also received the opportunity to take a coveted #selfkowski.
Linganore certamen team takes first at Saturnalia certamen
In the certamen they host every year, the Linganore Latin club entered a Level I team, which knocked the competition out of the water. Though it may have been stressful to orchestrate for both Ms. Carter and her participating students, it was certainly an undisputed success. In addition to hosting rounds of certamen, the LHS Latin club also arranged for there to be various supplies at lunch to make cards for the troops. All- in- all, we ended up getting a great number of original (and sometimes quite amusing) cards. In addition to the certamen, the LHS Latin club also hosts a teacher's round of certamen each year, which is and was just as big a success among the Latin students as the teachers!

To kick off the school year, we entered a Level I and and Advanced Latin team at the Eleanor Roosevelt Certamen. While our Advanced Latin team unfortunately did not place, our Level I team (despite it being their first certamen) placed 2nd! Participating on our team were Alexandria Hudson, Penny Owens, Gia Haemmerle, and Rebekah Boswell. In addition to participating in certamen, Kyla Dungan (left) and Rebekah Boswell (right) participated in the costume contest (dressed as Calypso). Rebekah placed 2nd overall, and won a trophy! The following day, the principal of LHS even tweeted about it, and there was an article published in the school newspaper for our outstanding performance in the competition.
